Hello, kiddies.

Today’s post is being brought to you by REAL LIFE ISSUES… yes that’s right, REAL LIFE ISSUES… a blogger’s number one excuse for failing to post regularly. And so easy to use too, all you have to do is just wake up some mornings… really, I am exaggerating. It is going to be another busy (and from the looks of things, extremely tough) term with another essay due in a week and intense computer programming lessons, but I have to press on and get it done. I do have some incentive though; I got a letter in the mail from the president of my university that says I once again made the “list” for outstanding academic achievement. Last term’s final scores were a 94 and a 98! With only five more terms to go before I obtain my associate’s degree (about fifteen more months of study), I am confident that it will all be worth it.

Just like I promised, the mighty Tony C. has returned to the kitchen to bless us once again. This time, the pots are spilling over with more of the delectable flavour of those sweet soul sisters. Let’s get right to it… without further ado, here’s Tony.

Hello Soul Stewers, Vincent has very kindly allowed me back into the kitchen with my new mix ‘Woman Got Soul’.
Inspired by the Chef’s excellent AntiDivas mixes I decided to put one together myself, but with a Dame Shirley Bassey track in the mix, (I) decided the use of AntiDiva hugely inappropriate!!!!
While on the subject of Dame Shirley I must confess that Vehicle is from a compilation as it was not officially released on vinyl… It was down to the very helpful members over at the brilliant ‘Very Good Plus’ forum that I managed to track it down.
I have tried to incorporate several genres to include R n B, Soul, Funk, Jazz and a bit of Psych for your listening pleasure! Kicking off I thought it only right that a true pioneer, the legendary Billie Holiday would be the way to go with the superb ‘Me Myself and I’, released in 1937.
I hope you enjoy the mix and agree with me that whatever style these tunes are performed, all these Woman got Soul!!!!

Hello, kiddies.

Another term comes to a close. I didn’t fare as well as I had planned in the end, but I think that’s because I really have to get away from here.

You all know how I just love the summertime… UGH! Heat, humidity and headaches. Oh well, I’ll get through this one just like every other.

Saturday marks our first wedding anniversary, so Leslie and I are returning to our summer place for ten more days of rest, relaxation and records… I hope that this trip proves as fruitful as the last.

The time comes to give up another one of those freeform exercises. This one was inspired by taking those visits around the land of blog and having my mind blown. It was just as exhilarating an experience as when I made that tape from the radio, which I finally found out just about all of the song titles and artists. For the past month, I’ve been totally immersed in anything Psychedelia. Fuzz… Sunshine… Freakout!!! There was a time so long ago. I’m sure you’ve all been there at least once. Well for me, it was 1986. MTV was playing the first of many marathons of Monkees episodes. I found Sgt. Pepper for the first time… and botanicals… I look back on it all and don’t regret a single minute. Yeah, young and stupid I was. I guess saying if I knew then what I know now isn’t really necessary. Now that I’ve put my heart on my sleeve again, let’s get to the food… brain food, as the image below may suggest.

Back to the books. I hope that this term is easier than last. With all due respect to my Algebra professor (who was instrumental in my bringing a D up to an A in less than three months), if I never see another equation in my life, it’ll be too soon for me, and that’s no joke my friends. I’m missing so many things and forgetting so many people that I should thank for their countless blessings. With only a two week gap between courses, I had to get lots of things accomplished, most important, some quality digging. With that said, be sure to remember Record Store Day this Saturday by paying a visit to your local record shop and showing your love. I know I sure will. With a little luck I should have a brand spanking new 45 rpm exercise real soon, but I hope that this heaping helping of dusty singles will get you through. I do have term papers and finals coming up over the next three weeks, so I’ll be burying my nose in the books once more.
