Time to get the ball rolling…

Apparently 1 and 1 got their money, so it’s all good for another year… so with that said, it gives me great pleasure to be able to once again say hello, kiddies.

I want to take this time to announce my intentions for 2015 and beyond, and use this platform in which to spread the word about said intentions. For years now, many have come from far and wide to hear my mixes and read my personal ramblings. I am eternally grateful to each and every one of you for taking a little time out of your busy schedules to allow me the occasional indulgence. To the close to 1000 followers of my Mixcloud page, the thousands who have visited (this) blog, and those who follow me on social media, I want to formally announce the launch of my latest venture which I will simply call Fufu Radio. As always, it will be an ongoing work in progress, but I feel the need to return to some sort of regularity once again. In this way, I hope to not only continue sharing my love of interaction through music, but possibly make some sort of small but meaningful return on the investment at long last. As most of you know, I spent years building this brand brick by brick as a hobby, and I have spent even more time building my arsenal of vinyl and virtual music in an attempt to reach this point, but now it is time to take it to the next level… I’ve always dreamed of the day when I could present a product such as this, and I think that I am finally ready to take on the challenge.

The format will be quite simple, a regular episodic podcast of sorts, featuring songs, stories about the songs, and hopefully I will get the opportunity to interview and have some engaging conversation with like-minded individuals who I admire and respect to flesh it all out. As always, no genre will be safe, and no stone will be left unturned, because that is how I was raised.

I plan to present a “pilot” episode in the next few weeks. It will most likely be pre-recorded at first, so that I can get more comfortable on the microphone. It will be the first time that the masses have heard me speak, apart form the one and only time I spoke briefly on mixlr, or for those who have met me face to face. I will definitely welcome any and all encouragement, suggestions, requests and even constructive criticism, because it is my intention to present a quality product that will keep listeners tuning in regularly, and attract new listeners along the way. I never dreamed in a million years that I would be able to do something like this on any scale, much less, a worldwide one, but judging from where I’ve been over the past eight years, I can say with a fair amount of confidence that this will prove to be something that will last for years to come. If you want to share in my endeavour, please stay tuned…

Thank you for your patience and your continued patronage, and above all, thank you for choosing Fufu Stew! As always, have fun(k), and please be safe.

Peace and blessings.

Moving day (including Fufu Funk Fix No. 10)…

Hello, kiddies.

I know y’all didn’t miss me… 😛 Just kidding. I’ve been away far too long.

I hope that 2010 has gotten off to a good start for all of you. I wish I could say the same for myself, but I remain optimistic… I don’t have a choice.

What about that snowstorm the other day… and that is only the half. As I type this, we’re getting blanketed again with another potential two feet. This is definite record breaking stuff. Not since 1883 has Baltimore seen snow like this. Lots of digging, but certainly not the kind I like. At least there’s plenty of other rations available, so I can rest easy and put up a much needed post. I ain’t even gonna lie, I haven’t seen the inside of a mom and pop shop in ages. No need to explain why. In the interim, I can say that this post is being brought to you from the comfort of my easy chair… literally! The missus shocked me for xmas with one of those little nifty netbooks. As luck would have it, the poor thing has more wires hanging out of it, and I’ve gotten awful lazy.

With all that said, here is the tenth funk fix. It just worked out that way.

01 In The Summertime (because I am fiending)-The Peddlers
02 Got To Do It Right (because I just have to)-Mike James Kirkland
03 Deal With It (ditto)-Jimmy Lane & The Incredibles

and now for the closing commentary.

I purposely let the third anniversary of this insignificant little corner of the blogisphere slip by, mostly because of a lack of time, but also as a result of those dreaded real life issues which drain my motivation. I had to come to the realisation that after a somewhat successful run, I finally got the nerve to pack up and relocate to a new home. It’s been a long time coming to say the least, but I have broken ground on the all new Fufu Stew in an attempt to make the place look much neater. The next time we meet, which I hope will be soon, I will cut the ribbon and be open for business. If you want a sneak peek, go to http://chef2010.baywords.com and have a look round. The process is going well; I’ve got a little extra time on my hands, y’know? Now if this is your first time here, then please take advantage while you can for it may not be here long, and I can’t guarantee that all the old posts will make the trek from here to the new spot. I’ll leave everything intact for as long as I can though.

Back to shoveling snow… and another round of midterms. Until the next time we meet (and I hope it’s soon), have fun(k) and as always, please be safe.

Peace and blessings.

Happy Winter (including a special holiday triple threat)

Hello, kiddies.

Welcome once again to Winter (at least here on the right coast)… We’ll see how it goes. With all new heating appliances recently installed, it should actually be quite efficient where the pocketbook is concerned… and as I have said so many times before, winter also means another hella hectic holidaze (dusting off the Grinch gear)

I intend to make the best of it, including another birthday celebration in a little over a week.

Now this is gonna be another one of those huge posts, complete with not one but THREE new offerings to get you through just like I promised. I’m sorry I didn’t get the chance to do a Thanksgiving special this time (what is that thing they call “real life issues” anyway), but consider this a special holiday triple threat nonetheless. Come hungry and read on…

First up is another super-sized helping from my friend Tony C. I really can’t call him a guest this time though, because as the long-standing tradition in my family’s respective households goes, once you’ve visited us more than three times, you’ve become a member of the family with most of the perks that go with it. Help yourself as it were. Drop in anytime and all that. Tony did indeed drop by.

Hello, Firstly many thanks to Vincent for allowing me back into the new and improved Soul Kitchen. This latest mix is one that I thought about in the Summer when the 40th Anniversary of the Apollo Moon landings were being acknowledged and it has taken me until now to get it sorted. ‘Real life issues’ as they say in (the blogisphere)… and you ain’t never lied, Tony… we’re all feeling that. Anyway here is “Space: The Vinyl Frontier!!”, an eclectic mix of Cosmic tunes and Voices. Enjoy!!

Cheers Tony C.

Please download and enjoy Space: The Vinyl Frontier!!, 94 MB. As always, it’s a pleasure to have you drop by with the heat, Tony. Much respect.

That’s the first one…

The next one is a little something I finished yesterday, not necessarily on the fly. As you all should know, this month marked the fifth anniversary of everybody’s favourite Soul museum, the legendary Funky 16 Corners… Well, I’d say about four years ago was the first time I ever visited when volume twelve of the radio podcast series first dropped. Check out the archive if you need a refresher. It was then that I was forever hooked… on the blog… and on the mighty Hammond. With that said, here’s my tribute to both… Yep, that’s right, another collection of mega-groovy organ-type workouts that have in some cases, been in the pantry for many, many years.

I ain’t done yet…

Here’s one that was really, really done on-the fly about two weeks ago. This time, the premise was a rather fast-paced collection of hodgepodge. It really feels good when I slap this one in the truck and put the pedal to the floor (at least when the authorities ain’t lookin’)… If you’ve got a need for speed and a lead foot like I do, then I think you’ll dig this thing that I call

Whew! That was a mouthful to say the least. Now my truck is satisfied, and I hope that you are too. I’m gonna commence to prepare to get ready for Thanksgiving and the rest of the holidaze now. I did give Sandy Claw my wish list though, not that it’s any surprise what I asked for 😀 I’ve got another three weeks to get through in this term, and then I can start thinking about the third anniversary of my little corner of the bolgisphere. For those of you with Thanksgiving plans, be sure to eat a lot first of all… Have a great day, and whatever you do, do it good. And even if Thanksgiving isn’t in your scheme of things to do this Thursday… as long as you have health, happiness and friends to share a good day, then my wishes for you all have come true. Last thought:

“Smoke steams from under the lid that’s on the pot,
ain’t never had a lot but thankful for the little that I got…”

– Cee-Lo Green, 1994

Have a good week full of fun(k), and as always, please be safe.

Peace and blessings.

P.S. To everyone who lent a hand this time, I give a BIG round of thanks and much respect. Any thoughts, kids??? I’d love to hear from you. Thank you so much for your continued patronage.

…and now, these messages

Hello, kiddies.

Please indulge me for a few paragraphs or so, because I want to send out a few shouts, praises and plugs. I can assure you, if you read this far, then you will want to continue on and pick up on the following links. I managed to forge a few more alliances, catch up with a few friends and discover some really exciting new spots while in the midst of procrastinating. Therefore, it is my duty as a card carrying member of this ever increasing universe to share what I learned with you.

Before I go another further, I’m pleased to announce that 4BB Weekly has begun another contest… 4BB-DAMN_Remix

That’s right kiddies, the 4BB remix competition 2009 is under way! If you’re a beat junkie, and have the moxie to get your skills heard on a fairly large scale, then head on over and get the full skinny. While there, be sure to pick up the exclusive Headstone EP, graciously provided by our good friends Damn!Pope Records and Universal Music.  Big thanks to all the sponsors, and importantly, thanks to the fearless leader for bringing it all together. Nothin’ but love!

Now for the plugs…

First, let’s travel to Scotland, home of the mighty Starla Records, and also home to a new dwelling called The North East Beast. It seems as though this spot just appeared out of nowhere one day (well at least to me), but I am thrilled that I found this place. There are lots of great 45’s from the funkiest to the freakiest, served up by the host, Joe Whimster. Diggers the world over will agree that this cat has some exquisite taste, and in some cases, good luck. I am more thrilled to say that Joe has graciously agreed to “come on in my kitchen” real soon and bless us with a helping of 45 rpm goodness. There’s more to come on that note later, but I must forge ahead…

Next up is a fantastic spot to check out oodles of Garage 45’s. Dan’s Garage of Obscure Sixties Gems contains hours upon hours of curios. I must tell you, this man has lots of boxes, and his benevolence is beyond compare. He just blessed us with a fresh crop over the weekend, so please, don’t sleep…

Into The Ether (3)Last night, I was digging this amazing gem of a mix. There’s four more just like it right here at Peter Beaver’s Revolution in the Headphones. I urge you not to sleep on this one either, kids.

Next, a big shoutout to Sir Psych, and an even bigger thanks for creating the incredible Sir Psych Presents. Remember, “Psychedelic Shack, that’s where it’s at”…

Let’s see, ah yes… a special public thank you to the fine folks at Phrock Blog for “helping a brother out”…

The Soul Garage… fantastic! When times are hard (and believe me, around here they really are), it’s nice to find a little comfort in nodding the head to some silly-rare 45 rpm heat. Thank you so much, gents.

Back to jolly ol’ England, where my good friend Mr. Double Down continues to celebrate The Hook And Sling’s second anniversary with even more special guest mixes from my hero, and a white hot offering of funk from Russia’s Anatoly Ice! This is the kind of stuff that ol’ Palin SHOULD be looking across the water for (I ain’t even going to go into politics here, except to say congratulations to President Obama for winning the Nobel peace Prize)… FUNKIFY YOUR LIFE!!!

My God, there’s so many more… thank you all for helping to make the world a better place. We are well on our way.

I hope that this will tide you over until I can get my shit together. Yes, how many times am I going to say that??? Real life will one day stop kicking me in the ass but until then, all I can do is forge ahead. Thank you for your time, and don’t forget to visit and support all those wonderful sites, ‘k? Another term starts today, but the efforts to make time for all my endeavours are ongoing, so I hope to bring you something new and completely different in the not too distant future. Have fun(k), and as always, please be safe.

Peace and blessings.

AntiDivas No. 10

Hello, kiddies.

My words will be quick today.

I got it done… all I can say is that this is the long awaited tenth installment of AntiDivas,  just in time for the two year anniversary. As is custom, it started with one tune that I just couldn’t get out of my head… then another… and another… James once said “we got to let the girls know what they got to do for us”. Well, as far as I’m concerned, these girls got to SANG! Here we go.

…and now for the closing commentary

Back to the books. I hope that this term is easier than last. With all due respect to my Algebra professor (who was instrumental in my bringing a D up to an A in less than three months), if I never see another equation in my life, it’ll be too soon for me, and that’s no joke my friends. I’m missing so many things and forgetting so many people that I should thank for their countless blessings. With only a two week gap between courses, I had to get lots of things accomplished, most important, some quality digging. With that said, be sure to remember Record Store Day this Saturday by paying a visit to your local record shop and showing your love. I know I sure will. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and a good week full of fun(k) of course, and please be safe.

Peace and blessings.

My Favourite Fufu Part One (including a load of snax and a new place to play

Hello, kiddies.

Before I go any further, I do have a couple of surprises. At long last, there are some new Fufu Snax!!! Head on over and help yourself…

In addition, I am trying something new and a little out of the ordinary in some cases. I now occupy another small space in the blogisphere which I call Fufu Stew Too. It’s still a little green, but feel free to drop by and have a look round.

Well, another week of algebra is over and I still have a good average. I am so strapped for time but I wanted to drop by and say howdy. In addition, I wanted to give  a shoutout to my man the Scholar for a job well done on the Valentine’s day special. If you didn’t get the opportunity to check out my contribution, there’s no time like the present.

It was kinda ironic that I got that invite, because I actually had Souled On Music on my brain just a few days earlier. I had been feasting on some old recipes and found one of my all time favourites. For the benefit of those of you who are new to the Fufu Stew experience, here’s another chance to check out one of the first guest posts that I did back in August of 2007. I added a little spice and a couple extra ingredients for those of you who were there the first time around. With that said, here’s the first installment of My Favourite Fufu…

No real closing commentary this time around. I found a couple more that I will reheat later on. With a little luck I should have a brand spanking new 45 rpm exercise real soon, but I hope that this heaping helping of dusty singles will get you through. I do have term papers and finals coming up over the next three weeks, so I’ll be burying my nose in the books once more. Almost done with the work, then the fun will resume. Thanks one and all for bearing with me during my time of need. I haven’t studied this hard since I was in Middle school, but in the end, it will all be worth it. Have fun(k) and as always, please be safe.

Peace and blessings.

P.S. Please show your love to Daptone Records…
