So long, Teena…

Hello, kiddies.

I have another batch of 45’s ready to go, but my wife just hit me with the news a few hours ago. I guess this means I will be foregoing the JB tribute, because It’s hard to believe that the world lost Lady T yesterday. Hers was a voice like no other, definitely worthy of all the accolades she has received since 1979. Please raise a glass, say a prayer, shed a tear, and hold onto the memories with this on-the-fly mix. Now it’s common knowledge that she was quite the funky chile and could play a pretty mean axe, but we all know that it was really about them pipes… damn, she could sing a mean ballad. Here are just a few of them that I cannot do without. We all know them and should have them close at hand.

You can listen to the on-demand stream at my Mixcloud page…

Rest in peace…

Records are like chocolate part twelve

Hello, kiddies.

The time has come to get off my rusty dusty and get to work on making this a successful venture. I am not even going to lie when I tell you that my motivation level is for shit. I just completed another term of studies. I won’t have a 4.0 when all is said and done, but it is what it is. Remember, I had to deal with a host of issues, most of which are not worth going into. In any event, I made the solemn promise to myself that I would go and soothe my sorrows by doing some much needed digging last week. Boy, was it ever fruitful! I got some rather elusive gems (at least in my honest opinion), and I also found some nice surprises while sifting through three tubs of new arrivals at the corner store. I love going there now. The proprietor lets me bring my portable and drain battery power, making sure that I don’t bring home any undesirables. And because Uncle Sam gave me my change, I was also able to attend this month’s fire hall show. Again, Gary, the couple who’s name escapes me, and a couple of nice gentleman who’s respective tables I visited for the first time, saw to it that I left there with abolutely no money in my pocket. Good thing too because once again, I came home with all killer and no filler. With that bit of long winded speech out of the way, it’s time to sit down and play some 45’s. Wanna hear some of what I got? If so, then pull up a chair. Kinda like a Whitman Sampler,..

This is dedicated to Marge, the former proprietor of Ferndale Oldies who passed away a couple of weeks ago. She was such a sweetheart for unlocking the secret room for me when I came to visit her shop. Somehow, I know her massive inventory will find its way to the other shops here in town; it always happens that way. Rest in peace…

Please download and enjoy Records Are Like Chocolate, 95 MB, or, you can go ahead and try some now, thanks to my joining Mixcloud… If the response is good, I’ll add some more stuff to it.

Time is short, so I must jet. I have but one week of respite, albeit filled with seven power packed days of hard labour at the workplace. In that time I truly hope to have the ribbon cutting ceremony over at the new digs. I should be able to do it. I also have a bazillion new 45’s to go through, so hopefully you can expect to see me once more before you know it. In the meantime, enoy your spring break and other holiday festivities, however you choose to celebrate them. Just be sure to do it good, okay? Have fun(k), and as always, please be safe.

Peace and blessings.

Happy Spring… (including Six String Fufu) and school’s out too!

Hello, kiddies.

I’m finally ready to get this show on the road. After three grueling months of studying algebraic expressions and equations, I’m HUNGRY!!! With that said, it’s time to lay the first of what I hope to be many piping hot and fresh freeform exercises. First of all, this one was inspired by a recent email I received from the proprietor of jemsite.com, a discussion forum dedicated to the glory of the guitar (a hearty hello to all of you dropping by from there. I hope you enjoy your stay)… For those of you who enjoyed Organic Fufu last summer, get ready for what I hope will be a real mind blowing experience. Each and every ingredient in this my latest double shot contains some type of guitar chops, from full on riffing to the simple syncopated scratch. Pour a glass of wine (or your refreshment of choice, liquid or botanical) and dive in…

both parts in one, so Double your pleasure, double your fun. Besides, it’s been too long. I have to treat myself to some pleasure every once in a while. I’m keeping a 3.8 GPA, so I deserve it!

Big thanks to DJ Prestige, DJ Blueprint and my man Kevin over at the I Hear A New World headquarters for the inspiration this time around, and of course to Ava for inviting me to play for the good people at jemsite.com 🙂 Feel free to pay ’em a visit.

and now for the closing commentary…
I will make good on my promise to bring back the AntiDivas. In fact, it’s been two years this month since I dropped the first one on ya, so I will attempt to devote the entire month of April to the AntiDiva. It’s gonna be a lotta fun, I assure you. Since I only have a two week respite between terms, I figure I better get started. Again, I want to thank each and every one of you for bearing with me, and I want to send an extra special shoutout to the Guru and his trusted colleagues for continuing to keep plenty of 45 rpm heat on hand… the next time I see you all will be much sooner than the last time… 😉 Basically, there’s still plenty to eat ’round here so don’t go far. As always, have fun(k) and please be safe.

Peace and blessings.
